A Day in the Real World

10/10/23

Reflection

The ISM Business Symposium was full of enjoyment and information, coming in forms of Alumni Panels, Networking Panels, Call Panels, and Interviews. It was very insightful, as I got a chance to meet professionals from ISM 2 and workers in actual job firms. This gave me a chance to learn about cold calling, original works, and expand my network to other ISM students from various schools. I enjoyed my time meeting new people and seeing new faces.

The Preparation

In order to prepare for this ISM Business Symposium, I performed practice interviews at home, completed practice interviews with other teachers at my school, and planned out my responses in a natural and insightful way. I also practiced my Elevator Pitches with my fellow classmates, which assisted me in getting an idea of how I can open up my personality to professionals. This also helped me create a persuasive presentation for potential mentors in the future. A few things that I could’ve readily had to better prepare me for the ISM Business Symposium is having videos to watch on how not to be dry and unnatural during interviews. Other than that, I felt like my teacher, Mr. Green, had proficiently prepared me for this interview.

The Input

What I did well during the interview was portraying a vivid smile, being natural, and completely answering their questions in a professional and non-provocative manner. I also dressed appropriately for the interview. Moreover, I used advanced language and was energetic enough to appeal to my interviewer, which allowed them to ask interesting follow-up questions and relate to the answers to my questions. I also did a great job finding commonalities with my interviewer, as that also enhanced my interview. Additionally, I did a great job getting their contact information like their LinkedIn, which made the interviewers feel joyous as they felt someone was interested in their occupation and their interests. I could have improved the interview process by being a bit less repetitive during my responses, I feel like these improvements must be made by me, as these are personal issues that I experience and I can eliminate with time and practice. With consistent and comfortable practice, I can strive for a skillful interview in the future.
